Intensive Care System

Active FET Controlled Equaliser

The only way to truly equalise a pack of batteries from a model car is to discharge each cell individually to zero volts. If your pack of batteries has dumped on the track, then it is most likely that one if not more cells have discharged to zero volts (in fact some will possibly have been subjected to reverse charging) .

Connecting this pack to a traditional pack equaliser (providing that you make good connection to the spring contacts) will only result in equalising the cells that still had charge left in them, the result of which is a pack that is not truly equalised

The Intensive Care System will safely discharge each cell in a pack to zero volts. A pack that has just been raced will take approximately 60 minutes to fully discharge. The Pro-Trak Intensive Care System can safely be left with a pack connected for days without any ill effect to the battery pack.

The Intensive Care System has to be connected to a 12-18 volt supply, the unit has seven crocodile clips that have to be connected to the individual cells. A red LED indicates the condition of the nicad pack and an orange LED indicates that the system is running, there is also a switch to stop discharge. As the pack is equalised the LED indicating the condition of the nicad will go out. The pack is considered equalised if this led does not come on within 5 seconds of switching the discharge off. When connecting nicad pack to unit always connect the red and black wires first and check that red LED illuminates, if it does not illuminate then check the fuse.

We recommend that all packs are equalised irrespective of whether they are new matched packs or old club packs.

Packs should only be equalised after every 4 or 5 runs in your car

Do not equalise after every run

We have positioned the individual cell connections in the approximate position required for correct connection to the cells, however you must be careful to connect these leads to the right cells otherwise damage to the ICS may occur. Also ensure that your 12 - 18 volt supply is within these tolerances (use a meter to check your Power supply unit as some can output 24 - 30 volts without a load connected)
