Setting up Pro-Trak to charge Li-Po cells (3000mA and above)

Power up screen Showing version number and discharge amps

Main menu showing  type of cells to charge, use key 6 to toggle between Li-Po and Ni-Mh cells

Press key 1 to display and set the charge voltage change over point. ie the voltage at which the charge will change from Constant Current (CC) to Constant Voltage (CV)  Use the * and # keys to increase or decrease the value.  Please consult your cell supplier for this information. Pressing the 0 key will step to the next screen where you can set the voltage for 2 cells.

From information received a CV value of 4.2 volts for a single cell and
8.4 volts for 2 cells will charge the cells close to full capacity.

Step the voltage up or down using the * and # keys, press key 0 to exit.

Press key 5 to set the charge current (normally 1C, where C equals the capacity of the cells to be charged)  The pack is charged at this current until the change-over voltage is reached.    Press key 0 when the correct current is set to display the next screen.

The Cut-off amps is the point at which charging is terminated.

ie When charging the pack voltage will increase, when the voltage of the pack reaches the change over voltage (8 volts in this case) the charge is changed from CC to CV.  To maintain the constant voltage the charge current has to be reduced slowly, when the current reaches the value set for the cutoff amps the charge is terminated. Press key 0 to exit.

From tests we have found no real advantage in setting a low Cutoff amps, set this value to 2 amps.

Pressing and holding down key 1 will start charge,  Pro-Trak will test the voltage of the pack and configure the charge for 1 cell or 2 cells automatically.

When Pro-Trak has finished checking for the number of cells it will display the information shown here.

Charging 2 Li-Po cells with Constant Current to  8 volt then  Constant Voltage.

Power supply voltage  - Pack Voltage   -   Change-over voltage

From bottom left to bottom right

Charge time   - Charge Current    -    Charge capacity

If using Pro-Trak to discharge,  the cut-off volts can be set by pressing key 9.  Please consult your cell supplier about discharging Li-Po cells.

The graph below is from tests we were doing on a single Li-Po cell.
The change over voltage was set at 4.2 volts and the cut-off amps was set to 0.5
You can see when the pack voltage reached the change over volts the charge current started to reduce.
When the current fell to 0.5  charge was terminated.
