Please read this manual fully before using Pro-Trak. This will save time
Thank you for purchasing Pro-Trak, Pro-Trak is one of the most advanced battery management systems in the world and we are sure that it will give you excellent service.
Pro-Trak has been designed specifically for the serious radio race car owner who wants to ensure that the batteries that power his/her car are in peak condition.
Pro-Trak combines all the functions you need, charger, discharger, cycler all in one easy to use compact unit
What really makes Pro-Trak unique is that it provides the advantages of individual cell monitoring during charging and discharging without having to unsolder the cells from the pack.
Most chargers on the market detect when a pack is charged by monitoring either its temperature or the negative delta peak. However the major advantage that Pro-Trak has over these is the ability to charge the pack while monitoring the condition of each cell individually.
For example a charger charges the pack and switches off when the pack reaches the negative delta fallback level. However unless the pack is very well matched some cells may not have been charged fully and other cells may have been overcharged. In other words you may think your pack is OK when in reality you don't know and there is no way of finding out. With Pro-Trak this situation is easily detected and the mismatched cells identified.
The same applies when discharging. Although the pack may be discharged to the correct level, i.e. 6.00 volts. It is quite possible for some cells to be discharged to the point that they actually reverse polarity. This situation is not only damaging to the reversed cell but can also damage the other cells in the pack. Pro-Trak will never allow this condition to occur, as soon as a cell is detected falling below 0.50 volts the discharge is stopped. In addition Pro-Trak actually identifies the cause of the problem., (remote leads must be fitted for Pro-Trak to detect cells falling to 0.50 volts).
Finally no longer will you have to unsolder your cells in order to test them. Unsoldering cells can lead to premature damage. Really the only time you should unsolder cells is to remove/replace faulty ones. With Pro-Trak you can test the cells while connected as a pack.
The temperature of a cell during charging is a good method for determining when the cell has reached its fully charged state. However when charging cells in a pack the temperature depends on where the probe is inserted. If for example the probe is inserted near to a poor cell, the rest of the pack could either be undercharged or overcharged. Neither case is desirable.
Pro-Trak reduces this problem by having a Temperature Detect Module fitted with 4 probes, the pack is placed on the module and the temperature of all the cells is monitored. The Temperature detect module is an optional extra.
1. Connect the input leads ( thick red and black leads from the left hand side of Pro-Trak) to a 12-14 volt supply.
2. The display will show Pro-Trak Ver 10.##, followed by the Power up message (user programmable)
3. Plug the remote leads (multi coloured wires) into the socket on the right hand side of Pro-Trak. If you do not want information on all the cells then there is no need to connect the remote leads.
4. Plug the thick black output wire on the right hand side of Pro-Trak into the negative connection of pack and the thick red output wire to the positive of the pack.
